It is in My Blood…

In the last post, I mentioned I wanted to write about my life as a crafter.  You may ask why this would be important, maybe it’s not to anyone but myself, but it plays a huge role in my existence and I thought I would share what I like about my crafts and hobbies.

I am always asked when others find out that I love doing crafts and have several interests, what crafts do you know? I usually respond by stating it’s easy to tell you what crafts I haven’t done.

I thought I would now take the time to list my hobbies and crafts, maybe more for myself than for others reading it.

  • Writing (Poetry, Children’s stories, etc.)
  • Calligraphy
  • Crocheting
  • Embroidery
  • Painting (Oil and Acrylics)
  • Jewelry Making
  • Sewing
  • Quilting
  • Scrap-booking
  • Card Making
  • Coloring
  • Drawing
  • Leather Working
  • Wood-burning
  • Origami
  • Hot Glue Art
  • Glass Etching
  • Quilling
  • Photography
  • Creating Games
  • Story Telling
  • Doll Fashion Designer
  • Reading
  • Playing Games
  • Hair Braiding
  • Many other small crafts

I don’t do the whole list currently, but if I were so inclined, could do it if I chose to.

The reason I think I love these hobbies is because I can use the creativity that is in my mind to make something I can physically see, hear, touch, etc.

My entire family is very creative in many ways, I have been doing these things my whole life and they have become part of me.  I think the reason they remain a huge part of who I am is because I use them to cope with things that I am going through at the time.

Throughout the years I have taken many psychological classes that have taught me different coping skills.  They call it a Wellness Toolbox.  I have learned so many wonderful skills and hobbies that I can pull out of my “toolbox” when I need to distract myself, redirect my thoughts, or focus on something positive.

By doing many different things, I don’t get tired of one thing, I love teaching others, and I keep very busy. I am so blessed that I have a husband that understands my love of creativity and supports my need for it.

I have many dreams and desires for my future and my love of writing is something that I plan to move forward.  I hope the process of publishing continues to develop and I can achieve those dreams.

Crafting and having hobbies mean so much to me, it is in my blood…

Thanks for reading, Love, Heather
