Our Strength – Poem

I wrote this after a dream I had. I feel it is powerful and wish it would have been true for me. (Not taking away from the strength today!) God bless women who fight and those that want to. God bless our loved ones that lend us strength when we need it.❤

Our Strength

I sat quietly, deep in thought,

Finally seeing what you had brought.

Our lives were meant to cross and intertwine.

My loving daughter, you are mine.

As I looked at the white carnation by my side,

I knew your strength would help and guide.

I stood tall, with the flower tight in hand,

Went into the courtroom to make a stand.

• They cannot break me, although they try.

I will not falter, I will not cry.

I have courage, a woman broken.

They will not win, for I have spoken.

You’ve held my hand through every pain.

You’ve shown me love time and again.

I’ve seen you fight with demons raging.

You are stronger now, even in the stage of aging.

Being my mother has never been easy or fair,

I could never forget that you’ve always been there.

So, I took your strength with me as I took a seat.

I was ready and determined to face the heat.

• They cannot break me, although they try.

I will not falter, I will not cry.

I have courage, a woman broken.

They will not win, for I have spoken.

Sitting behind me I felt you near,

I listened as you whispered in my ear,

Love for me in my time of sorrow.

Your friendship would last throughout tomorrow.

I have always felt your love and grace,

I looked forward with your strength in my face.

We’ve been through everything over the years.

I knew when it ended you’d wipe away tears.

• They cannot break me, although they try.

I will not falter, I will not cry.

I have courage, a woman broken.

They will not win, for I have spoken.

I have fought to keep my pride.

I have had doubt deep inside.

I took the struggle that hurt my soul.

I prayed to God that I could reach my goal.

The need to empower others that fight,

The raging terrors they have at night.

I used the strength that I felt that day,

To watch as my rapist was put away.

•They cannot break me, although they try.

I will not falter, I will not cry.

I have courage, a woman broken.

They will not win, for I have spoken.
